Perry is the daughter to Laurie Metcalf (actor) and Jeff Perry, a director. The first time she appeared on TV was two roles on the show as Jackie Harris (as seen in flashback) on her role on the ABC sitcom Roseanne, the character portrayed by her mother. Her parents, however, were not keen to let her perform until she turned older and worried about the consequences of stress. Perry admitted that she was too timid to perform when she was in high school. However, she started performing at Northwestern University as a way to connect with people following her transfer from Boston University. When she graduated, Perry moved into New York to search for television work landing small roles in series like Law & Order: Criminal Intent But her home-sickness caused her to move back to California which is where she discovered acting work. In 2013, she was a part of The Other Place on Broadway along with her mother. In 2015, Perry appeared together with Kevin McKidd alongside her mother in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prizewinning drama Anna Christie. It is part of the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble is located in West Los Angeles. Perry played a role in 9 episodes of The Family, an ABC drama The Family in 2016. She had a regular role on the ABC political drama Scandal that starred her dad. This year, she was chosen to portray a younger character of Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) on Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again portraying a younger version of her mother's role. This role was given by audition in spite of the fact that there is a connection between her family to the character.
